Welcome Students & Researchers!

The Algonkian words and phrases presented in this section varied among the given tribal groups, but they were mutually understandable over a wide area of Southern New England and Eastern Long Island. Use the links below to proceed to theĀ Fielding Alphabet or the Talking Phrase Book. It is recommended that you review the Fielding Alphabet to become familiar with the sounds represented by the letters in that alphabet. They do not all correspond to the English alphabet sounds. The six vowel sounds are especially important. These sounds never vary and they provide the basis for proper pronunciation of the Algonkian words and phrases.
